The tears

August 30, 2020

“Tearful is our world with all that we have done, Tearful is my eyes with all what I have seen.”

The Tears is an installation piece that will consist of light weight wooden Kayak and sea water. If I land on the South Pole and meet the planets largest feature Antarctica the emotional response to the environment would arise before any cognitive response occur. I would not be able to express that feeling in words. The tear would gather in my eyes. This would be my poignant response; my vision of Antarctica. Here, Kayak is envisioned as an eye and the water filled within the customized hollow being “TEARS” will resemble eye strangely still and quiet.  The tears in our eyes are salty and so is the sea water, making the resemblance of sea water within the kayak stronger to tears.

The tears in our eyes are salty and the water in our cells is comparable to sea. When this piece finds its right place it evokes the immeasurable depth and beauty of Antarctica. The ocean water filled in the Kayak embodies the tears hold in the eyes. If anything causes those tranquil and tearful eyes to weep, the Antarctica will cry ocean. (Global warming) This piece is open to personal interpretation and this ordinary object can take on multiple meanings drawing viewers into an immersive experience where they may reflect on personal experiences. It implores that our presence, choices and our actions should not flaw the beauty of Antarctica in anyway. I wish my project “Tear” to be manifested on the Ice.

After the  project completion  it will continue to live as an eye, witness a reflection of Antarctica .

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

Antarctica, “Tears” comprises of highly mobile and portable components. The main body of my art will be a Kayak that weighs around 10-15 kg. The kayak will be 8 feet long and 2 feet wide. Due to its light weight and small dimensions it can easily be transported to Antarctica on an inflatable boat. Additionally, the support of one extra person will be sufficient to set up the installation in our destination. The next vital component of my art work is tears, or the sea water which can be filled within the kayak from the sea water of Antarctica itself. However, for the process of installation I would require two additional components: a bucket and a rope. The buckets will be used to carry water from the ocean shore. And the rope will be used to pull the bucket from the water. The collected water will be poured on the kayak. Consequently, the piece becomes inclusive when the hollow of the kayak gets filled with ocean water. The kayaks are structurally well balanced to put on the ground. Moreover it looks aesthetically pleasing on the ice.  After the completion of the work , the water will return to the sea meanwhile the kayak will be transported back on vessel board. Conclusionally, my concept is highly mobile, portable and does not cause any  damage to the environment.
