This piece was created in direct response to the shocking news that greeted me upon my return from Europe Art Tour that over 1,200 Jacaranda trees were to be destroyed for the expansion of the Ring Road which encircles
the city of Kathmandu.
The installation consisted of an out sized metal watering can placed in the Square, as a response to this disturbing news. A simple act of notifying people and drawing public attention with this piece evolved into a youth led movement.
Through many campaigns and our continual efforts we paved a way to meet with government officials and Chinese engineer’s responsible for the road expansion. Finally, we convinced them to alter the existing road
design and saved 25 % of the trees marked for destruction.
